Faistenau / Hintersee

Wild and Romantic Salzkammergut

Just a few kilometres from Fuschl am See you will find the village of Faistenau lying on a high plateau surrounded by the impressive Osterhorn mountain range. Idyllic and tranquil, far from hectic and noise.

The wild and romantic Hintersee lake is a secluded and quiet spot for swimming and walking. The walk around the lake gives the walker an ideal view of the surrounding mountain landscape. Whilst in Hintersee it’s well worth making a short trip to the “Ice Chappel”, a natural ice cave, where the ice formations can also be marvelled at in the summer months.

Numerous walking routes lead you through this beautiful part of the country. For mountain bikers there are several routes of different levels to choose from.

For the very brave, canyonning is also available in the nearby Strubklamm gorge. From the beginning of May to the end of October you can explore the gorge on a 3 – 4 hour tour. The gorge which is up to 100 metres high and 2,7 metres long is a real challenge. Jumps of up to 8 metres, safety harnesses and ropes – not for the faint hearted!

Faistenau is the cross-country skiing heart of the region, just a few minutes drive from Fuschl am See. This well organised cross-country ski centre provides not only 60 kilometres of trails but also the necessary infrastructure such as showers/WC, changing rooms, ski hire and waxing workshops.
